Pat Clarke gave Gladbach it 2-0 with an own goal. Gery Harkins failed in a post shot.
Gladbach coach Michael Frontzeck: "We would have to win 5-1, but again have a variety of gate-ways that were played with good passages out unused. Otherwise it was okay that we are successful and healthy come from the training camp. "
Hoffenheim Spy Ralf Rangnick watched as Roberto Colautti twice headed over. Substitutes Moses Lamidi, Karim Matmour and Fabian Baker forgave freely in front of Scots keeper Tony Bullock.
Raul Bobadilla had bad luck with a free-kick against the crossbar - after a foul against Juan Arango. Frontzeck: "There have been wanting other things that we are working on."
